Thank you for your current breakdown and insight. Both of my boys played AAU basketball in Utah growing up. It has changed a little bit since they grew up. I know Tim Davis very well and his program, and both of my boys trained with him over the years. My goal when my boys were growing up was to give them the best training possible whether that was with personal trainers, or helping them find a gym to train on their own. Skill training is the number one priority if someone wants to play basketball competitively. And the best programs are those that include high level training. Both of my boys played on high school teams and one of my boys played in college. In my opinion, AAU has become a money grab and an elite status type program and is less concerned with providing skill training. The programs get the best kids to maintain the status but I'm not sure how much the programs sincerely care about the boys development, but rather have the boys help them "win" at these higher level tournaments and circuits to maintain and elevate status. Just my two cents. Obviously, playing on high level AAU teams gives the kids very good game experience and exposure so there is that as well. I remember when my older son was playing in an AAU game and there were 60 college coaches there to watch the game including Dave Rose from BYU and Coach Pope from UVU, it was an exciting experience to have my son play with that type of exposure.
