network. Not to say it wouldn't have happened without him but he was a big help. Someone I knew at BYU then reached out to me a year later because they were interested in a post doc position in the lab I work and I helped get them in.
I've also done recruiting visits to BYU for my school and got some other BYU grads to come. My grad school is out of state (B10 conference) and wouldn't be looking BYU otherwise. I've also seen BYU grads around me do the same.
Idk how the alumin network works in the state of Utah, but it is a big benefit here in the midwest.
