Technically you don’t have to drink water to stay hydrated. But many non water
fluids can make you more thirsty, through their sugar (or sugar substitute) content. The calories in non-water fluids can be a concern for certain individuals.

Some patients who have chronically low sodium values are asked to not drink water.

For the average person, water is cheap, has no adverse health concerns, and is well tolerated.
