Tigers fans had always gone downtown, pre-Comerica. But when Ford Field was built, suddenly Lions fans were down there too, as well as all the other events hosted there (like concerts, Final Fours, even a Super Bowl).

But I agree that building beautiful Comerica Park rivatalized the area right around it — for example the great Detroit Opera House that is practically across the street. And the Fox is great, also almost across the street.
