I don’t know the situation but I’ve seen enough of Pope to feel like he is similar to my sons’ high school coach. From the first year Pope gushes about how great guys are and then doesn’t play them. Think the wonderful things he said about Kolby Lee. That sends mixed messages to kids and it is demoralizing.

My son’s coach would talk about kids like they were the best thing ever and then not play them. Then he’d say in the locker room how he is going to get them in the next game. Or a kid has a terrific game and then he “forgets” about the kid the next game. It messes with kids’ heads.

(And no it wasn’t my sons he did this to. My boys, unfortunately, had the greenest of green lights.)

I don’t know if the situation is the same because I wasn’t in the byu locker room but from where I sat, I could see similar traits in Pope that my kids coach had.
