It’s 50/50. He was part of a staff that put that team together. Sounds like
the players generally like him and he’s well respected but if the GM or Owner didn’t want him as the new coach he’d be out of a job, likely temporarily but true.
And yes about 50% of first time head coaches are former assistant coaches but it doesn’t mean a team always promotes from within. They skipped him to hire Vogel so why not do it again if a better coaching candidate is available?
