A two months ago my company announced met our yearly goals and are all invited to a retreat in a neighboring state. I work for a rather large company so getting everyone to the event in one group would be difficult so they asked for volunteers to drive down and bring a few others with them. I had to fill out a questionnaire about my driving record. Since I haven’t been pulled over since October 2002 I was approved. I had a few friends in mind I wanted to bring but they wanted this to be a team building event so they randomly assigned people from other departments to come with me. Well, that’s ok, I always enjoy meeting new people.

They gave me the phone numbers of the people who would be riding with me and we arranged a time to meet up. I showed my list to one of my friends and he told me one of the guys, we will call him BB, wanted to drive too but he has had like 8 speeding tickets so far this year and he wasn’t approved. When we met up, he kind of acted like he didn’t want to ride with me but it was either that or drive 7 hours by himself. With the price of gas rising like it is, I guess he decided he would take the ride.

When we got out on the highway, I decided to show these guys how safe of a driver I am and keep it to a solid 65 MPH the whole way. We don’t have anything extra going on this evening so we have plenty of time to get there and I don’t want my boss to exclude me next time he needs someone to drive. I have noticed in the mirror though, that BB, who is sitting in the rear passenger seat, has been giving me funny looks for the past three hours. I’m not sure if it’s my driving or the Italian opera music I’ve been playing but I suspect something is wrong. He won’t have to worry though because I am going to get everyone there safely! He has been kind of fidgety though. Maybe he had to go to the bathroom or something. He keeps typing on his phone and glancing up at me. Maybe I should switch it up and turn on my death metal playlist instead.

BB is coming back out from the gas station now. We had to stop for gas. Hopefully he shares some of the munchies he bought. I’m going to try and figure out what’s been eating him. I’ll report back when we get there. Only three and a half hours to go!
