I had a call from an angry customer who was berating me pretty hard. I kept my cool,apologized and said I’d make sure the mistake never happened again. The customer asked to speak to my boss,I laid the phone down instead of putting the call on hold. I then called the customer an A-Hole and walked away. A minute or two later,my boss stormed over to me and yelled at me for not putting the person on hold. I fully admit it was a stupid mistake on my part,my boss got an earful,then I got a pretty angry earful from the boss. Luckily for me,it was my only real issue with that boss and after a day or two,we patched things up. I also apologized to the customer and we actually had a good relationship until the day I retired.
