I prefer boarding first. Having a carryon at my feet reduces my leg room that I need/want (there's a reason people pay
for extra leg room) so I ensure I have space for my bags.
I save time waiting in the long line on the jetway. Sitting in my seat is better than standing in the line to board the plane.
If I'm thirsty I can get a pre-flight drink.
But the most important reason is that I'm nearly always asleep before the plane takes off. The sooner I sit, the more sleep I get.
