I coach track in Eastern Idaho.
Between JH and HS I spend about 20 days outside at track meets each season. To be honest this has been the most pleasant season of the 10 years I have coached. Our first meet was not great but it was 19 Mar in Malta, ID. After that meet it was at least decent every meet until last Wednesday in Dayton, ID-that sucked.

I host a big meet at ISU the 3rd week of April every year. Last year we had to start with a dance party in the discus pit to melt the inch of snow we arrived to when we got to Davis Field. It actually got pretty nice at that meet as the day wore on, but the first one I hosted at ISU two years ago was the most miserable day of my life-and I went to West Point and spent 5 years as a combat arms officer in the Army. High 30's on and off raining and slushing-it was miserable. I went through 3 sets of clothes. However, when we got to the 1600s and we were still getting 80-90% of the entries still getting on the track to compete it was so inspiring to me. I get the studs wanting to get out there but we had just about every registered kid show up for sections 2 and 3-kids running in 37 degrees into torrents of rain after a long cold day for no other reason than the virtue of self-improvement. I had to thank God I get the chance to spend a portion of my life around kids who really are willing to sacrifice their creature comforts to get better at something.
