Some people will argue to the contrary, but I know what I know.
1. Despite the rumors, KY has never been offered a head coaching job in the NBA. He didn't turn down the job with the Nets, and we need to stop perpetuating this.
2. Madsen is still very much on BYU's radar, and vice-versa. KY was the top candidate and it materialized really quickly. Madsen was made aware, and that's when he tweeted his loyalty to Cal. None of this is to imply that there's not a very good relationship between BYU/Madsen that might play out down the road. Young and Madsen are also good friends.
3. None of the announced assistants were KY's first choice. First, Holmoe and KY made a play at a big-time, household name. It didn't work out, for a few rea$ons.
4. Burgess did not get a big salary increase to come to BYU (Even McCombs is wrong about this one). He desperately wanted out of Utah, and this was his chance.
5. At the "players only meeting" after Pope left, it was unanimous that everybody wanted to stay together at BYU, but all agreed it would be wise to maximize earning potential. It worked.
6. Not a shocker, but Jax is almost certainly NBA-bound. If not, BYU still has a legit shot. He already graduated from BYU, however, so school academics is not a factor.
