if you want a pro sports team, the entire community is going to pay for some of it through tax incentives and/or bonds.
No doubt it is a great thing for the team owners.
But again, it is the game we play. Communities that don't get on board either don't get teams or may even lose teams. See Northern Virginia (had a shot at the Washington Capitals) and Phoenix (they had every chance to keep the Coyotes).
I personally think the intangible benefits--community pride, entertainment options, etc--are worth it.
