it's an interesting idea. One of the best teams I ever coached had only 6 guys..
...and it worked beautifully but got stressful at times if we got in foul trouble. It was a fall league and I had a bunch of seniors graduate the year before. We ran through our league undefeated and we had the best chemistry of any team I've ever coached. They were all kids who'd been with me for a few years and we had a little bit of everything but with a 6 man rotation guys began to know instinctively what to do in every situation. Our defensive rotations were so tight it was a thing of beauty. On offense guys knew their roles and we didn't have hero ballers.

I totally get where he's coming from. The year before i had a large roster with a lot of older players (over half the team played varsity ball). Overall it was my most individually talented team but it was hard to build any chemistry or sense of unity on the floor because I had to have a big rotation. We won the title that year too but it was more difficult and less satisfying as a coach.
