Some really interesting Babe Ruth stats.
Babe Ruth only won one MVP. Why? Back then there were unoffical MVPs and you were only allowed to win it one time in your career. According to Tim Kurkjian, if Babe was allowed to win it multiple times then he would have won it 10 times between 1920-1931. The two years he wouldn't have won it was due to him being injured. For example, in 1927 he did not win the award, Lou Gherig did. Babe hit 60 homers that year. He surely would have been the MVP in 1927.

He was the best pitcher in the AL and in 1920 decided to be a hitter too and hit 54 home runs. He was the first guy ever to hit 30, 40, 50, 60 home runs in a season. He out homered most teams. He out homered the next 3 guys in the AL combined.

I liked hearing these stats to give context on how much Babe Ruth dominated his era. He's imagined as an overweight guy that teed off on hobby pitches. That wasn't true. He hit 136 triples. No active player has anything close to that. Mark McGuire who compares to Babe in a power hitter perspective hit a grand total of 6 triples. He has the same number of shut outs pitched as Pedro Martinez. Would be fun to see him play in today's era with the same training and nutrition.
