I had a detached retina repair and subsequent vitrectomy at 18.
I have had periodic floaters ever since. If its really bad I wouldn't feel like the vitrectomy is a huge deal. The recovery is probably the hard part but I am not sure how much of my recovery was specific to the retina repair. Probably a lot.

I was also told by one of the best eye surgeons to ever do it in Utah (John Carver for those in the industry) that I would probably require cataract surgery within 5 years and definitely within 7. Here I am 17 years later and clouding is just now starting. Im probably good for another couple of years.
