I love pickles, but they are a side dish meant to be consumed separately from other foods. This is because they have such a strong flavor that they drown out almost all other flavors.

There are two exceptions:
1) Some sweet pickles are okay on some sandwiches, as they typically don't have as strong a flavor
2) Relish is fine on hot dogs
