I’m thinking of buying a house that has popcorn ceiling but removing the popcorn
ceiling before we move in. The only thing I like about that stuff is that it helps absorb sounds. Any tips on how to offset the loss of sound absorption? Is it just rugs and heavy curtains? I’ve read that there is such a thing as sound absorbing paint but that seems made up to me.

Obviously I’m really smart and know a ton about things home repair and renovations and stuff like that, but simplify your answer and pretend you’re speaking to a dumb 4 year old. Just in case a dumb person comes across this post in the future and needs help, of course.
