My son was an outstanding xc and track runner in HS. Got recruited by many smaller colleges and walked on at BYU. His senior year in HS at the state track meet in the 1600m someone stepped on the back of his shoe and it came off with 250m to go. He dropped from 2nd place to 7th running with only one shoe. Broke my heart to watch his dreams fade on a fluke. He’s over it but I’m not.
