I had done the IFA 4 step plan for several years. I hated two things about it: 1) The Step 2 always seemed to kill lots of grass and not just weeds, 2) you have to be very careful with Step 3 during the summer or it'll scorch your lawn.

SO...I switched to the Lawn Process guy's plan. Loved most of it, but 1) hated that he just does spot control for weeds. Weeds got out of control. 2) I missed the impact that Step 1 of the IFA plan had on getting my lawn green SUPER EARLY.

Now here's what I do (because I know you're all waiting with bated breath):

- IFA Step 1 as early as possible and VERY heavy. Like the week after daytime highs are 45+. The lawn greens up earlier than anyone.
- Scotts Weed and Feed - Works just as well as IFA Step 2 to get rid of the weeds, but isn't as hard on the lawn itself. Love this.
- Milorganite - I follow the Lawn Process guy here - Millorganite on Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day
- IFA Step 4 - I put this down in the Fall twice - usually mid-September and again in mid-October.
