Is there some reason we shouldn't have hoped that cold fusion would be successful?

If it were real, it would be a total game changer, more than a cure for Alzheimer's would be.

The problem with cold fusion is that it was not real. Unfortunately given the history of big breakthroughs in alzheimer's, this breakthrough is probably not real either. Though we can still hope.
