BYU I Bleed Blue All-American
One thing I always did with our seven kids - monthly father’s or mother’s
interviews. Every month. They knew that they could talk openly about anything, and we would counsel together.

Sometimes just the assurance that we were there. Sometimes just spending some personal quality time. The interviews were never formal, and they could do them wherever, on a walk, sitting on the trampoline, up kind of reclining on their bed.

Mind you, six daughters and one son. Girls are dramatically different than boys, especially at that age. I would always ask every time:
1. What do you like about our home?
2. What challenges are you facing here at home?
3. How is school?
4. how are your friends? Any concerns with friends?
5. Do you know how much Mom and I love you?
Etc.

You know them so just talk openly and honestly. Every time we prayed together and if they needed a blessing I would give them one. That may not be the case if you’re not religious but you can still pray for them with them.
