They have all the rights they need to tell amazing stories from the Second Age.
The creation of the rings and the fall of Numenor are two of the most compelling stories in the entire Middle Earth lore. All the source material is right there. Tolkien doesn't need a crowd of Hollywood dummies to "improve" upon his work.
