Google Deep Mind has been amazing -
AlphaFold for proteins is extremely accurate and solved a problem that universities have supposedly poured billions of research grant money into.
AlphaGo, AlphaStar, AlphaChess, etc. If you are looking for a AI that is most accurate at playing games. . . Google is currently king. (Open AI has done some good stuff here, but not as good).
Alpha Tensor has changed the way ALL computers do mathematics by AI determining faster ways to compute complex mathematical equations.

Lastly Waymo, They currently are giving 50,000 rides per week with an AI driven car. Sure Waymo needs plenty more improvement, but it works and is Level 4 autonomy when the next best system is Level 2 autonomy or competitor's that have been taken off the road.


I would not say Google AI was late to the game, they just had different focus early on.
