Tryout week is my least favorite of the year. The emphasis (by parents) put on being on the A team for 12 year olds is crazy. I understand older kids being focused / wanting to make Varsity in HS, but that desire is typically theirs and not projected on them by a parent.

My advice to parents of younger kids playing competitive club is to find the right fit that encourages development as a player and prioritizes skills and decision making. Each player develops on their own timeline, get them in a situation where they can build confidence and flourish.

This year alone I had 5 former 'B' team players
sign to play after HS. If your player doesn't get on the team they were hoping for, it is definitely not the end at age 13.
