After I saw the movie I looked him up on Family Search
Of course Norm’s story is cool but I also found his father’s story equally cool. Here is his profile. Check out his life history in his own words under the memories tab.

Frederick Seibold

TLDR - Frederick was born in Germany but emigrated to the US as a young man. Heard about Salt Lake because he wanted to learn to swim and heard you wouldn’t sink in the Great Salt Lake. Ended up getting to know some member of the church and fell in love with a girl who was a member from Switzerland and had emigrated to Utah. Frederick developed a high opinion of the church from his interactions with members. He went back to Germany to find his dad had died. His mom got some anti Mormon stuff from her pastor and was talking about it to Frederick. He said he disagreed with it and knew Mormons to be good people. He ultimately decided to go back to Utah because he wanted to marry that girl. His mom disowned him. He went back to Utah and proposed to the girls. She said she loved him but wouldn’t marry him because she would only marry in the temple. Frederick determined to pray for the first time. He prayed and felt an evil presence jump on his back and he heard the spiteful words he heard his mother speak to him when he told her he was returning to Utah. Finally when he said the words “the church is true” he was released from the evil bonds. He went straight over to the bishops house and asked to be baptized. He married the girl and they had six kids. Norm was their oldest. He got called on his mission back to his fathers home country and ended up getting all the missionaries out of Germany before the war started.

It’s worth reading the whole story in his own words.
