I keep having uncomfortable thoughts back to the whole Purdue Pharma / Oxycontin saga (portrayed in "Dopesick" on Hulu). How easily big pharma convinced so many desperately suffering folks to take it, then continued to tweak their message to offset any effects, with every decision basically built on profit motive, but then ultimately having to admit it wasn't a miracle drug after all. I really, really hope this is not a repeat of that whole era.
