I keep talking myself into BYU landing Chaz Lanier.
I tried to do some snooping around in other fan forums and this is what I've learned.

1) Lanier is probably going to make a choice soon. This has been reported by 247 insider Travis Branham (link below). It's pretty much decided that Lanier won't get drafted this year so he's now switched focus to choosing the best college for him.

2) Lanier (or his agent) wants to keep his recruitment quiet. It has been crickets on the Tennessee and Kentucky fan forums. I've only found two reports on Lanier and both have been disputed. The first was that Chaz took a visit to Kentucky yesterday. This was disputed on twitter, but the kentucky fans on their forum claim people saw him at the airport. The second report also came from UK fan forum claiming that Lanier was asking for a lot of money and family relocation and that Tennessee was given that offer too. I highly doubt this is true. I believe NIL $ numbers are throw out as negative publicity to push recruits or fans in different directions.

Either way, Lanier wants his recruitment as quite as possible, which opens the door for BYU to come in under the radar. Very few people know what's actually going on with Lanier's recruiting, and those that do know are trying to keep as quiet as possible, so reports that Tennesse and UK are the two favorites don't sway my belief that we can land him.

I believe BYU has a very compelling pitch to Lanier. Chaz has made it clear that his number one goal is to make it to the NBA. I don't think it's a coincidence that Woj mentioned BYU during the NBA draft combine. Woj says what people tell him to say, that's why he's so good at his job. Woj mentioning BYU is evidence that KY is using his NBA connections on the recruiting trail. Every serious NBA prospect would be watching the combine. What better time to have a 45 second add from the best NBA insider about how BYU can win in the B12. It's easy to assume KY's using the rest of his NBA connections to also recruit Chaz. Maybe a call from Devin Booker about KY's coaching style? If the money can be close-ish to what other schools are offering, I think BYU can land him. Again, this is all conjecture. No insider info as always.
