I’m running Arista NG Firewall as my router plus all Unifi network gear…
The firewall used to be known as Untangle, and they offered a Home pro option (around $130/year) that was near-enterprise level protection for a home user price. I have it running on an older Dell PC. Unfortunately, Untangle was acquired by Arista, and they are sunsetting the home Pro version. I have a year to find another option.

I’ll consider the Unifi firewall/router devices, and may go that route, but “experts” say they doesn’t offer as robust of intrusion protection. So I’ll look at both PfSense and Opensense. May install another SSD in my old dell computer and get PfSense running on it. Then I could either boot up as Arista/Untangle or as PfSense. Can work on setting up/configuring PfSense, but then switch back to Arista/Untangle, until I know I have PFsense ready to become my primary firewall and router. I have about 10 months left on my Arista NG Firewall Home Pro license.

Fiber modem (calix gigacenter… served as my router and wifi before I sent up Untangle and Unifi network gear. Now it is dumbed-down to just be a modem)

The Modem feeds my Arista/Untangle Firewall/Router which then feeds:

Unifi 8 Port
Unifi 20 port
2 Unify U6 wifi hotspots in the main house.
Unifi 8 port switch and U6 Wifi hotspot in the garage
Unifi 8 port switch and a U6 Wifi hotspot in our guest house.
All my hotspots are hardwired.

I run the Unifi controller in a docker on an Unraid NAS server that I built.

I have a Main Network, an IOT (internet of things) network and a guest network set up as separate VLANs.
