Kalani and Co.'s extension and raises came about before BYU was in the B12 and earning B12 media funds. Also, Kalanai and company haven't set the world on fire with their football results.
Pope struggled in the WCC (minus year 1) and then pulled off a good B12 debut. KY was more respected coming in and had a better resume than Pope did (UVU for two years) before being hired.
