definitely take it hard if she doesn't make it and I'm a little worried. This past year in middle school has been hard from a friend perspective.
That said, I've really been pushing my kids to go for things they want even when they have a chance of falling short. They are a bit like me in that they tend to just pursue things they believe they won't fail at — which can be a bit limiting. They're well-rounded kids that have the luxury of being good at a lot of things, but I think there's value in deciding you are going to aim for something difficult even when there is a chance you won't make it. So I'm glad that she's putting herself out there.
But its hard to see them miss.
And I just remembered that I ran for class president one year in junior high. I was beaten by my friend who had agreed to serve as my "campaign manager" (which was an actual role each candidate had to declare at the time they applied to be a candidate). He was turning in my application to run for the position and looked at the line-up of other candidates who had applied. After seeing the competition (or lack thereof), he scratched his name off of my form and filled out his own form to run against me . . . and then won. I guess I have a good topic for my "at least you tried" speech should she not win 🙂
