That was the like the old Wild West when chat was exploding back in the day
It's probably good for me that it isn't a thing anymore, because of the hypnotic draw that it was and the volumes of time that it consumed.

I remember it something like this during conference realignment rumors the first time around.

1st Poster: I just found out from someone in the AD's office that .......... and ....... (Long and multi-paragraph post)

2nd poster: Yeah this is what I'm hearing, except it is more like this ..................

3rd poster: (5 minutes later): What's going on? What did I miss?

1st Poster: Reposts the long multi-paragraph post.

(Random additional poster then posts another factoid or bit of "insider information")

Every other poster: What's the update? What's going on?

1st, 2nd and 3rd poster: Reposts the first or second long multi-paragraph post.

(Post and repeat)

Yeah, those were good times.
