Season wrap up, 2024 outlook
Cougar BB fans should take some comfort from the season ending series with Kansas State.
Series was on the road against a top 40 RPI team with something to play for. Our season had
gone south weeks prior and seemed we would just be happy to see the season come to a merciful conclusion.

Instead the team came to play and actually outscored K State over the three games. The
team showed resilience in coming from behind on multiple occasions against a really good K State
bullpen. BYU bullpen was absolutely lights out.

Really encouraging for next year's outlook was the continued emergence of Crew McChesney. He looks
like a real player going forward. Fast, great defensively, has shown some power. Also great to see was the
continued excellent hitting from Parker Goff. Game winning Grand Slam in game thee. This is critical
as there seems to be a good chance that Collin Reuter will be drafted and not back for his senior season.
It is a luxury to have a catcher who hits as Goff has done over the past two years. These two ended
up as the leaders in OPS for Cougs on the season.

Next year looks promising as an IF of Cooper Vest, Luke Anderson, Easton Jones and Brock Watkins
would certainly be competitive with almost anyone in the Big12. Goff has to be one of the best hitting
catchers in the league. McChesney and Bryker Hurdsman are both very fast OFs who have shown they can hit.
Ryker Schow and Keoni Painter showed promise as FR OFers as well.

That leaves the pitching staff as the question mark. The bullpen was exceptional overall this year.
Losing Mason Olson and Boston Mabeus undoubtedly hurts. But Stone Cushing was a really good closer
this year. Hayden Coon. Jake Porter and Candon Dahle all had decent years. Cutter Clawson has the stuff
necessary to be effective. Payton Gubler, Luke Sterner and Carter Foss showed they have promise.

The starting pitching will be the biggest question mark on the team next year. Ben Hansen is the only
pitcher who returns who has had any success as a starter. And he has not been awesome.

I am encouraged that next year could be a good one for BYU baseball. Coaches are no doubt hard at
work to bring in a couple of starting pitchers and a couple of big bats who can play the OF.

Really hope for some success on the recruiting trail. Program needs to get back on the right track.
