It's simply a more favorable numbers game.
The ratio of high school basketball players to D1 scholarships or even P4 spots is much better than it is in football.
Also the talent gap in basketball from one level to the next is much narrower further increasing the number of recruitable players

I think our advantage in bball is the Marriott center. It's so much better than nearly all places to play college
