RE: UK out of the running for Lanier?
Pope: I know BYU better than anyone. They can just be super over the top with their honor code that you’ll have to abide to. It’s like no partying, no flirting with females, not even a drop of alcohol. Like really, they expect you, a super duper good basketball player to not party, eat a little and drink a little, have a little fun?! Man, you’ll love it UK, it’s the Mecca of college basketball. These fans will worship you. You’ll do phenomenal, your basketball skills are super unique, it’s just amazing. UK is like the dream place to play and coach in college basketball.

Lanier: I dunno, coach. I kinda liked the atmosphere in Provo. They had a great development plan they laid out to get me to the NBA, I can see it’s a unique place but I kind of liked that the guys still seemed to enjoy it and have fun, but it also helped remove some of the off the court distractions and makes it easier to focus on getting better at my craft. And not to mention, I thought it would be like a desert out there, but man those mountains had so much green and were just awesome to stare at.

Pope: yeah, UK probably isn’t a good fit for you.

Lanier: yeah, I think the development I’d get with coach Young and the environment at BYU may be what I need too. UK probably just isn’t a fit for me.
