I should probably clarify, we enjoyed the
tourist district. Most of the area outside of the downtown "touristy" part is a hole. They have some great tours of downtown Charleston you can take by horse-drawn carriage. The old restored architecture is beautiful...mansions right along the river. They have the old slave trade market downtown, and lots of really cool historical buildings if you're into that sort of thing. It probably isn't the most exciting town in terms of things to do, but if you like Victorian architecture and just taking in a historic place, Charleston is fantastic.
