My rambling perceptions related to fall camp:
There's no method to my madness here...just rambling tidbits that I type as they pop into my head:

Anthony Heimuli - Wow, this kid does NOT look like a true freshman. Knowing very little about him or his high school accomplishments, I would venture to say that he was a good pick up. Mark my words - he'll be one heck of a fullback in time. Kid is BUILT! Jo Jo Pili is another LOAD of a fullback at 250 lbs.

Another impressive looking true freshman: #85 Brett Thompson. He was highly thought of as a recruit, so I'm not surprised that he's doing well, but I was a pleasantly surprised by his build. He looks like a chiseled upperclassman - like Collie did when he showed up at camp. He's got great size, and shows good speed and hands. Has had some very impressive catches in drills and is getting a lot of reps.

#10 DiLuigi seems to be the first guy behind Unga. Malosi is getting a few reps also, but I haven't seen him do much. DiLuigi has taken a fairly active role in the offense so far.

Mitch Matthews looks like a basketball player - tall and skinny. He shows good speed, but of the 3 talked about freshmen WR's he'd be my first guess as a RS. He needs to bulk up a bit. #20 Cody Hoffman is every bit of 6'4" and looks like an athlete. He's got a good inch on O'Neill, though not as thick. He's getting a lot of praise from his peers.

Hooks' injury sure looks a lot more serious than a "minor pull". Kid was watching from the sidelines and was limping pretty good.

Bradley also tweaked his knee during a non-contact drill, but told me "it's not a big deal...I'll be alright".

O'Neill looks confident and much more comfortable in the system. He's a very strong player, and can bully all of our DB's for the ball.

I've not been overly impressed with our DB's. All of the JC kids look small, and they've gotten an earfull from Coach Hill all week. Yeah, they are brand new in the system and I'll give them a few weeks before I get too critical, but I wish they would show more coverage skills even in the one-on-one drills. So far, our WR's are killing them. Steven Thomas is first off the bench .....Hmmmmm.

JD Falslev - Freshman WR from Sky View. Most of you haven't heard much about him, but he's getting a lot of opportunity in the spotlight, and is at least causing a lot of the media members to look up his # and profile. Has had some nice catches and is one of a handfull of guys returning punts and kicks.

Jray Galea'i - Getting a lot of reps with the 2's

Brendan Gaskins - Still seems to be struggling. I guess if he hasn't shown anything by now he likely never will. Hall seems to be playing REALLY well, but there is a HUGE dropoff after him. Nelson hasn't looked any better than Gaskins, though he at least has the "inexperience in the system" excuse.

It won't happen, but I wish we could RS Andrew George this year and allow him to be the spotlight TE next year. He's a great talent and I wish we could better utilize his skills. Maybe it's just me, but he looks to be a little bigger this year.

Bryan Kariya - Not sure where he'll end up on the depth chart, but he's a hard working kid and has bulked up quite a bit.

I hope Tonga can make the grades, but I'm not losing a lot of sleep over it. First off, I have some doubts that he'll be able to pick up where he left off, but beyond that I believe we have a lot of capable FB's. Much better depth than last year when we were scrambling to find warm bodies.

I know it sounds like I'm jumping on the bandwagon, but #6 McKay Jacobsen is going to have a standout season. He doesn't have the size of Collie, but he has better quickness, better speed, and equal hands. He makes highlight catches every day.

Riley Stephenson has been impressive in the punting I've seen (none of it live). Pretty consistent 45 yards with good hang time.
