The BCS does this every year
Why they feel the need to identify 20 or so teams for BCS contention before they actually have to select teams is beyond me, but they do. It is still mathematically possible that BYU could be eligible for a BCS game. It is also statistically extremely improbable even if everything aligned in BYU's favor from here on out that a BCS bowl would select them.
Lloyd Christmas had better odds.
