...far fetched. Being someone who has no idea, I can see your point of view as being valid.

I'm also curious if Jim thought that the fact he was so successful made it so that the rules would be changed for him. I'm not sure how well he understood the culture (yes, I know he lived in Utah - but that isn't the same.)

I had to chuckle as not too long ago there was a link to a Baylor site talking about BYU joining the Big12. A poster there made a comment that if Sunday play was the only thing keeping BYU out of the Big12 - there would promptly be a revelation allowing BYU to play on Sunday.

I have no doubt that BYU would cease to have collegiate sports prior to playing on Sunday. But there are people out there that believe that BYU would make the change if it meant success, etc.

Relating this to Jim McMahon, I kind of wonder if his young college-age kid brain convinced him that he was too big to have any consequences, so as you state - as he had more success on the football field he felt more and more invincible when it came to the rules until ultimately he went too far and/or drew too much attention to himself.
