You only need to go back and review articles quoting ex-team mates and coaches. Nearly every player and/or coach who worked with Detmer in the NFL gushed about his fb IQ. Even head coaches. Why would they say this? Because it's true. He didn't last in the NFL for 13 years because of his physical skills--it was over 90% of what was between his ears.

Detmer is a HS coach because he openly said that he wanted to get away from football for a while. The HS gig was just his own choice to get a feel to see if it was something he wanted to get back into. His family is #1 and that's what he was concerned about as far as coaching. BYU is friendly in that area.

I think Anae is a good coach--just not great. I don't think he is showing that he has the "it" factor. I agree--fans don't know everything--so I'm open to the idea that it's not all his fault--having a freshman QB does affect things. But my opinion of Detmer doesn't just come from what he did as a QB but it also comes from comments made by Pros in the NFL who have said as much.
