more good grimes quotes
Grimes cited two primary reasons for leaving Arizona State and accepting a job on Crowton’s staff.
“Any time you make a big decision like this, you look at a lot of things,” Grimes said. “I like the opportunity to raise my family in a place like Provo and an opportunity to be around people like coach Crowton and others guys on the staff there. The university, the staff ... to be in that environment was very attractive.
“And I’m excited to be a part of BYU football. It has a great tradition.”
Grimes said he researched BYU’s offensive line history and found impressive results. Grimes said BYU is tied for eighth nationally in the number of offensive linemen drafted over the past 15 years. Grimes said BYU is tied for first with the most offensive tackles drafted over the same time.
Grimes said he wants to do everything he can to continue that tradition.
“The most important thing about any offensive line is that the guys are blue-collar, hard-working tough guys who are willing to do the dirty work and like it,” Grimes said. “You have to have a certain mentality to play in the trenches. You can’t be a guy who wants to get the fame and glory but likes doing in the grunt work, and in order to do that you have to build a certain camaraderie and mindset within that group.
“We want to work in such a way that helps our offense score points. If we do that, we’ll know we did our job and be proud of the work we’ve done. That’s the biggest thing I try to instill in the guys I coach — I try to make them be proud of being an offensive lineman.”
