Some of you are claiming that the Utah coaches are being dishonest by telling Chase that he could play QB when in reality they are just going to switch him to defense. I've seen a few people suggest that Bronco would never do that, he is always honest with kids and tells them the truth about which position they will realistically play. Just remember that Utah wanted Mike Hague as a safety, and he grew up a Utah fan, but he went to BYU because he wanted to play running back in college. If Utah would have told him he could play RB, he probably would have committed to Utah. This situation is very analogous to Chase Hansen, who grew up a BYU fan and probably would have committed to play for the cougars if Bronco would have offered him a shot at QB. Well, last time I checked Hague is on the defensive side of the ball now. If that makes Bronco a con artist by doing a bait and switch on Mike Hague so that he could get him to sign with BYU, I guess you could call Kyle one too. Also remember that Harvey Unga committed to Utah, but switched to BYU at the last minute because Bronco said he could play RB and the utes wanted him at Linebacker.. Bronco didn't end up changing his mind in Harvey's case, but if Kyle was really the liar/con artist you suggest, he would have just lied to Harvey to get him to sign at Utah, then switched him to LB after he was on campus.

The truth is that both coaches want to see these players thrive and possibly play on Sundays. If Hague has a better chance of getting on the field as a DB, then good for Bronco for telling it to him straight, even if it is 4 years later. Same thing with Hansen, give him a shot at QB, but if his best shot at seeing the field is at safety or LB, then switch him over. Personally I don't find anything dishonest with that, but I guess some BYU fans will find any reason to criticize Kyle.
