When a BYU fan is a jerk then he is painting the LDS church in a negative light, because like it or not, people automatically assume that all BYU fans are Mormon.
As I mentioned in the above post, you all often argue that BYU is a missionary branch of the church and reflects positively when a good story comes out (i.e. Brandon Davies and the Honor code). Well, then the same is true, when someone is rude it reflects negatively on the LDS church.
