Ole Miss Fans >>>> Texas Fans
Chose to go to 2 games this year, Ole Miss and Texas. While 100,000+ fans was a site to behold at Texas, the Ole Miss Grove experience and the gracious hosts that the Ole Miss fans were made the Ole Miss experience the better of the two.

Examples, many of the men at the Ole Miss game were in collared shirts and penny loafers. A huge majority of the women were in sun dresses. We had an Ole Miss fan sitting behind me give BYU compliments throughout the game, like "You guys sure have a heck of a QB", in his polite Southern drawl. The Ole Miss fan next to me said "I hate too cheer to much, because I know it probably rubs you the wrong way." This was while Ole Miss was ahead most of the game.

Walking to our car in Oxford, a couple of drunk frat boys decided to yell "Joseph Smith was liar and cheat! The religion is a sham!" Just as my wife an I walked by decked out in BYU gear. No sooner had the words come out of their mouth, when 3 or 4 Ole Miss fans walking behind us ran over to the guys and loudly put them in their place. They almost came to blows. Two other Ole Miss fans crossing the street with us apologized profusely.

While at Texas tonight, once Texas finally got a slim 1-point lead, we were greeted with the chant from much of the crowd of "Go Back to Utah!" 2 or 3 different times. I had to chuckle, because a majority of the BYU fans I met at the two games were from outside of Utah, myself included. Texas tailgating scene was active, but paled in comparison to the grove (but whose doesn't?) Some frat boys driving around after the game saw me and my son decked out in BYU gear at the front of a group waiting to cross a street, they pulled up in the their car and yelled "Texas, Fight" and then looked at us and yelled "F BYU." The crowd of Texas fans around us just laughed.

I've been to enough college and NFL football games to know that the Texas fan behavior is not too far out of the ordinary. It just made me appreciate the Ole Miss experience all the more. If we ever play at Ole Miss again, I'll probably plan to go. I know we play at Texas again. Its a toss up of whether I would go or not. Been there, done that.
