Post Game Thoughts
1) Winder might as well pack it up for the season. In fact, he may want to think about transferring. With Carlino and Cusick cemented as the 1's (and Carlino is the obvious starter with Cusick doing a respectable job as back-up) I wouldn't mind us giving up Anson in search for a strong Hartsock type juco replacement player. And how is Nick Martineau still on the team?

2) Zylstra's luster is starting to fade. If I told you he played more minutes than anyone else yday, would you believe me? He was largely forgettable yet he did play more minutes (38) than anyone on the team. I realize that with Rogers out his minutes are going to go up but he really doesn't add much to the mix. His defense is terrible and he didn't add much offensively either. I'd MUCH rather see Harrison on the court at this point (despite some of his very ugly looking three point attempts). He creates more off the dribble, is quicker laterally and is much more of a threat in the open court.

3) Hartsock / Abouo's departure next year are going to have a HUGE -ve impact and I don't see anything in the pipeline to replace either of them. Both Hartsock's consistency / maturity and Abouo's athleticism are KEY ingredients to this year's team. 6 of Chuck's 9 rebounds yday were on the offensive side and he has really improved his outside game / his ability to take it strong to the hole. While Austin's play has been a +ve surprise, we are going to miss Hartsock's presence a TON next year. They are going to be missed most on the defensive side, however - we are going to get EATEN ALIVE on the defensive glass next year.

4) Other than some sloppy passes, Carlino's competitive fire was almost palpable. Not sure he's the "next Jimmer" but remember, Jimmer didn't blossom until the latter half of his sophomore year. If Carlino can be a consistent 40% shooter from 3 and continue to take the ball to the rack off the dribble, we are going to be a very tough team assuming we have someone who can consistently hit the open jumper when he is double teamed. I'm hoping that's Rogers when he's healthy because other than Hartsock from the baseline, I don't think anyone on the team is that guy.

5) What happened to the 75%+ free throw shooting teams we've become accustomed to? 8 misses in a 3 point loss is brutal. Coach Rose needs to get his guys back on the line in practice.

6) I LOVE Dave Rose. The guy shows so much fire and intensity on the sidelines which is a refreshing contrast to some of the other head coaches at BYU. Maybe it's the northeast in me, but I love me some visible fire in the belly even if it means a couple of swears every once in a while to get the troops rallied. Watching Steve Cleveland at half time reminded me all to well of what it's like to have an emotionless droid on the sidelines.

7) While the chances of getting Jabari are still remote, a part of me thinks he watches a game like that and thinks to himself, 'I could be the missing link to make a good team a GREAT team.' Do we know if little Emery and Hawes are in touch a la Jake Heaps with Apo and crew? Do we know if Jimmer has given him a ring? Can he legally? Building connectivity / relationships among players ahead of the decision making process can be powerful.

8) I have mentioned this before on CB, but the importance of the addition of Mark Pope to the coaching staff cannot be overstated. As a guy who spurned Roger Reid to play for the national championship Kentucky Wildcats and went on to have a career (albeit subpar) in the league, he lends MAJOR credibility to the staff. Coach Rose has told me several times that he is EXTREMELY gifted on the recruiting front as he connects extremely well with players from all around the country, LDS and non-LDS alike. I would imagine that when Dave decides to hang it up or leave for another program some day (and that's a matter of when, not if) that Pope is going to be a strong candidate for his replacement.

9) Sadly this loss is going to hurt a TON come selection Sunday. The WCC is prob not getting three teams into the Big Dance (despite the earliest Bracketology predictions out this week) and if we don't with the league's regular season title and/or the conf tourney, we're going to look back on this game and kick ourselves.

10) Are emergency food retailers the ONLY ones willing to spend $$ for that ad time? Why no ads from the Baptists?

11) Do we get Nielson ratings for the game? Anyone have a sense for what the viewership of these games is?
