The Utah rivalry was everything.

Watching them play the same crappy teams, and seeing how they did compared to us, helped build anticipation for the rivalry game. Declaring independence right when Utah left was basically our message to the MWC that none of them mattered except for Utah. That's probably why they were so bitter.
