I was also at Jimmer's big night at the JMHC

and there were a ton of BYU fans there; possibly more than I've ever seen at the JMHC. That said, it wasn't even close to being half of the number of Utes at that game, let alone "nearly as many if not more". I'm sorry, but you have a convenient and DSORB infected memory. I remember that nightmare vividly, right down to the single most unsurprising half-court buzzer beater I've ever witnessed. I knew with a certainty what was going to happen as James pulled up to take it, just as I know with a certainty your attendance estimate is wildly inaccurate.

Because I also know that your first reaction is going to be to stick to your story, I'll help you out with a little math. Here are the attendance figures for the home games immediately preceding and following the BYU game in 2011 - 8,571 for SDSU and 8,717 for New Mexico. Even if you assume that playing BYU resulted in not one single ticket extra being purchased by Utah fans (obviously not even close to reality), the average of those two attendance figures is 8,644. The attendance for the BYU game in question was 11,243. Making the incredibly conservative and certainly incorrect assumption that Utes bought only 8,644 tickets for the BYU game that night,  that would leave a difference of 2,526 for BYU fans, which is less than 1/4 of that night's attendance.

Even if we make the preposterous assumption that Utes, being incredibly generous people that thoroughly enjoy the idea of packing our own arena with zoobs, decided to give away 1,000 of those tickets to their BYU friends, the arena would still have been less than half BYU fans. Remember that those numbers are all predicated on the laughable assumption that playing BYU in the JMHC resulted in no additional ticket purchases by Utes, in spite of cougarboard's constant claims that Utes are really just BYU haters that live to cheer against you. A generous estimate would be that 1/3 of the JMHC was BYU fans that night, which is impressive enough of a feat that it doesn't need anybody to lie for it. It was hard to take, you guys were loud and obnoxious, and there were a lot of you; just not nearly as many as you're claiming.
