Programs that are big deals don't value publicity over beating their rivals. Being a bigger deal than UCLA would not save Sark's job if he lost to them four years in a row. Being a bigger deal than WSU would not save Coach Petersen's job if he lost to them four years in a row. Losing four years in a row to OU would cost Strong his job, regardless of whether Texas is a bigger deal than OU.
But for some reason our fan base justifies losing four years in a row to our rival by claiming we get more publicity, make it on ESPN, and are a 'bigger deal'. Other schools fans demand that their coaches win. We just congratulate ourselves on being relevant.
To me that is the epitome of not being a big deal. Its that type of small thinking and that separates us from teams that truly are big time. At any big time program, Bronco would be gone.
