Don't get me wrong. Watching us lose to UVU was awful and has killed any illusions I have of a true Homecourt advantage for a long time to come.
We have lost to some really awful teams in recent years as well. I'm not cool with that.
I also don't think our teams have been all that great lately, and our early exits from the big dance and respectable runs through the NIT are about where they have belonged.
Historically, BYU has not often been significantly better for long stretches of time than what we have seen in the post-Jimmer Rose era though. So if you expect a lot more, you're asking for something for which there is not a ton of precedent.
What absolutely bothers me is watching us play completely undisciplined offense, where our stars play selfishly much of the time, and we don't appear to have any effective schemes with which to counter opposing defenses. Our own D is consistently ineffective, and I don't like that they are fundamentally awful.
BYU nearly always struggles to guard athletic teams that can penetrate. We haven't always sucked in our fundamentals or approach, and it's hard to watch us play such bad basketball. We aren't just getting beat by better athletes. We are just plain bad.
