I've wondered this, I like the look of some colored backlights, but the concept
Doesn't make sense as to how it would help with the tv viewing especially eye strain issues

Movie screens use a matted black masking for a reason. TVs using the same black

If you're in a theater, the only light in front of you is inside the masking.
