The most qualified person because it's in their best interest to. In theory that would make sense. The article talked about unconscious racial bias a lot, that people assume certain traits based off race lend to their playing or coaching ability.
We see it all the time with players. Because a player is black, we automatically assume they are more athletic than a white player. (This was mentioned in Criddle's show re: The secondary the other day). This bias is happening with coaching but favoring whites.
Black sounding names on resumes get fewer callbacks than white sounding names. Is that because of overt racism? Probably not most of the time but hiring managers assume that whites are more qualified even when qualifications are equal.
My point is that unconscious racial bias is very real--we all do it and minorities tend to get the shaft. Great article highlighting this in college football.
